Managing Director and Production Producer: Liam Glendinning
Liam has worked and been involved in theatre for the past 10 years. His first involvement in the theatre was in the chorus of ‘Robinson Crusoe & The Caribbean Pirates’ with a Chester-le-Street based theatre group in 2005 and the rest as they say, is history.
Liam was a member and appeared in the chorus for several shows until studies got in the way and rehearsals became too much commitment so decided he would go along and work as part of the Stage Crew the week of performances. Staying as part of the Stage Crew for numerous productions he realised the technical side was much more appealing and was asked to take on his first Stage Management roles as a hobby for various plays staged by a local theatre company.
After volunteering on many local productions and several work placements with Stage Management teams on the UK tours of ‘High School Musical’ and ‘Sister Act’ he was delighted when the offer came through to take on the role of ‘Assistant Stage Manager’ for the professional production of ‘Jack and The Beanstalk’ at the Playhouse Whitley Bay for ‘New World Productions’ having earlier that year volunteered on their production of ‘Peter Pan’ at the Journal Tyne Theatre.
In October 2013 he decided to quit the day job and pursue his theatre career on a full time basis and went on to work as a casual crew member at the Newcastle Theatre Royal, giving him a number of connections and the opportunity to work in house on the pantomime and many of the incoming touring productions.
It was in September 2014 that I really started to be successful in climbing the ladder to where I wanted to be. I was offered my first chance to work away from home as a member of Stage Management for ‘Qdos Entertainment’ working on their production of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ at the Lyceum Theatre in Crewe starring Lisa Riley and Brendan Sheerin. This then led to me successfully gaining the Assistant Stage Manager role on Bill Kenwright‘s National Tour of ’The Sound Of Music’, later promoted to Deputy Stage Manager on the same tour and currently touring the UK with ‘Save The Last Dance For Me’.
I am also pleased to be continuing as a company director for Newcastle based ‘Starlight Theatre Productions’ and I will continue to stage manage local productions at home when the time allows me.
Astravaganza is a strong passion of mine and has been since I formed it in May 2012 as many of my family and friends will agree. No matter where I am in the country I will always put my theatre company at the head of my decisions as without it my career would be nothing. I am proud of how far we have advanced in the past four years, the number of productions we have staged and the array of talented members that we have gained. When I established the group my aims were to stage a variety of shows; Musicals, Concerts, Plays and Pantomime which is exactly what we have achieved and many of our connections have had the chance to take on their first Production roles as Director‘s, Musical Director’s and Choreographer’s.
Liam is extremely excited at the prospect of transferring the companies 2017 productions of ‘Priscilla Queen Of The Desert’ and ‘Annie’ to the fabulous Tyne Theatre & Opera House, Newcastle Upon Tyne.
